Walmart owned Olathe facility packages retail-ready beef cuts

KANSAS: Beef processed at Sustainable Beef’s producer-owned facility in North Platte, Nebraska is now appearing on Walmart shelves across the region, with product sent to a packaging plant in Olathe, Kansas for final packaging and distribution, according to a January 2026 update from local officials in North Platte. Packages carry a USDA establishment identifier, EST m3199, which is part of the federal numbering system used to trace meat products to their processing origin.

Walmart owned Olathe facility packages retail-ready beef cuts
Olathe incentives package for Walmart plant includes bonds and 10-year 50% property tax abatement.

Walmart opened its first owned-and-operated case-ready beef facility in Olathe on June 27, 2025, describing the site as a state-of-the-art operation spanning more than 300,000 square feet. The facility processes fresh beef into case-ready cuts that are packaged and ready for retail, then shipped directly to Walmart distribution centers serving Midwest stores. Walmart has said the plant is designed to support regional demand for Angus beef cuts.

The Olathe plant is supplied by Sustainable Beef LLC, a rancher and producer-owned company based in North Platte. Walmart previously announced an equity investment in Sustainable Beef, and the partners have described the arrangement as linking beef processing in Nebraska with case-ready packaging in Kansas. Walmart has said cattle for the Sustainable Beef plant are sourced from no more than a 250-mile radius of the North Platte facility, tying production to a defined regional supply area.

In its January 2026 update, North Platte officials said beef processed at the North Platte facility is shipped to the Olathe packaging plant for final packaging and distribution. The USDA establishment identifier shown on retail packages, EST m3199, enables product tracing through the federal inspection framework. The update marked a milestone for the North Platte operation, which became fully functional in 2025 and is now supplying beef that is reaching consumers through Walmart stores.

    Incentives and jobs

In mid-November 2025, the Olathe City Council approved a $257 million incentives package tied to Walmart’s case-ready beef plant. Published summaries of the council action said the measure included industrial revenue bonds and a 10-year, 50% property tax abatement. Walmart has said the Olathe facility is creating more than 600 jobs in the Olathe area, a figure repeatedly cited in public statements tied to the plant’s launch and subsequent local approvals.

Walmart’s grand opening event in June 2025 also included community grants announced by the company for local organizations, including Kansas Special Olympics, the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City, Friends In Service of Heroes and Mayor Bacon’s Book Club. Walmart has also reported that its stores, clubs and foundation donated $9.6 million to Kansas charities in fiscal year 2024, placing the Olathe facility within a broader pattern of corporate giving disclosures tied to the state.

    From processing to store shelves

Case-ready beef is meat that is cut and packaged before it reaches stores, allowing retail teams to place products directly into refrigerated cases. At the Olathe site, Walmart has said fresh beef is processed into retail-ready cuts and packaged for shipment to distribution centers, rather than being prepared for sale inside individual stores. The company has described the plant’s output as Angus cuts sourced from Sustainable Beef and routed through Walmart’s Midwest distribution network.

With the January 2026 confirmation that North Platte-processed beef is being sent to Olathe for final packaging and distribution, the two facilities are now operating as a linked processing and packaging chain serving Walmart stores across the region. Walmart has described the Olathe plant as its first fully owned-and-operated case-ready beef facility, with output moving from the North Platte processing site to Kansas packaging lines and then into Midwest distribution channels and store cases. – By Content Syndication Services.
