Amazon recalls 210000 INIU power banks over fire risk

WASHINGTON, December 9, 2025: About 210,000 portable lithium-ion power banks sold on Amazon have been recalled due to risks of overheating, fire, and burn injuries, according to a notice issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall affects INIU 10,000mAh portable power banks, model BI-B41, which were available for purchase between August 2021 and April 2022. The affected power banks have a black or blue casing with the INIU logo and a paw-print LED indicator on the front. The recall applies only to units with serial numbers 000G21, 000H21, 000I21, and 000L21.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled products and visit the company’s recall website to verify their serial number and register for a full refund. The company received at least 15 reports of the power banks overheating, including 11 incidents that resulted in fires. These cases caused minor burn injuries and property damage. The CPSC said the batteries in the affected units can overheat and ignite, posing significant safety risks to users and surrounding property. Lithium-ion batteries are widely used in consumer electronics, including smartphones, laptops, and portable chargers.

While the technology allows for efficient, high-capacity power storage, it also carries a potential hazard if a battery is damaged, improperly manufactured, or exposed to heat. Overheating incidents can result in fires, explosions, or toxic smoke emissions. Safety agencies continue to advise consumers to pay close attention to any warning signs from devices powered by lithium-ion batteries. Indicators such as unusual odors, discoloration, excessive heat, swelling, leaking, or strange noises should prompt users to stop using the device immediately.

Fire prevention measures urged for recalled batteries

These symptoms may suggest a battery malfunction or internal short circuit that could lead to ignition if the product remains in operation. Authorities have also cautioned against improper disposal of lithium-ion batteries. Recalled or damaged units should not be discarded in household trash, curbside recycling bins, or standard battery recycling boxes, as these can ignite if crushed or exposed to high temperatures. Consumers are urged to contact local household hazardous waste collection centers for instructions on how to safely dispose of or recycle affected batteries and devices.

The CPSC has emphasized the importance of consumer awareness and proper handling of products containing rechargeable batteries. As lithium-ion power sources become increasingly common across household and personal devices, the recall underscores the need for strict compliance with safety testing and quality control standards in manufacturing. INIU’s recall is part of broader regulatory efforts to minimize hazards associated with high-energy battery products distributed through major e-commerce platforms.

Recall highlights global scrutiny of lithium power devices

The recall highlights growing federal scrutiny of third-party sellers and imported electronic accessories, as agencies work to ensure that all portable energy devices meet U.S. safety certification standards. Consumers are advised to check their devices and discontinue use of any affected models immediately. Proper verification and registration for a refund can be completed through INIU’s official recall page. Safe disposal and replacement of defective units remain the most effective ways to prevent potential fires or injuries linked to faulty lithium-ion batteries. – By Content Syndication Services.
